How Long was a Day During Creation?

Were the six days of creation literal 24 hour days? It can be very risky to attempt to reconcile the age of the Earth according to secular science and what creationists believe. If the Bible is the inerrant word of God, then we should accept what it teaches us. In the Bible, the Book of Genesis tells us God took six days to create the heavens and the earth, and then rested on the seventh day. End of story, no reason to question anything? Unfortunately scripture is not as clear on this subject as some believers claim. Were these days of creation what we would call a standard day of 24 hours? or did they last hundreds of millions of years? or were they perhaps a combination of both? There are very convincing arguments to be made that scripture is telling us the days were more than 24 hours, but just how accurate and convincing are these arguments? Many creationist believe the six days were indeed 24 hour days and the earth is approximately 6,000 years old. Secular science tells ...

Shroud of Turin - Authentic After All?

Image
The Shroud of Turin is one of the best known and most debated Christian relics in history. Tradition tells us the Shroud is the burial cloth used to wrap the body of Jesus after His crucifixion. The Shroud was then found in the empty tomb on Easter morning.  "So Simon Peter also came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he looked at the linen wrappings there, and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings but folded up in  a place by itself."  John 20:5-7 The Shroud depicts the image believed to be Jesus and clearly shows the face and body of a man, with his hands folded across his body. The image is said to be the result of a chemical reaction, of unknown origin, which allowed the blood of Jesus to create the image on the linen cloth, thereby preserving the image.   The authenticity of the Shroud has been an ongoing debate almost since it was first displayed in the 1350's. No one is sure where the Shroud had been prior to...

The Peleg Event - What Does it Refer to? (Pangaea)

Image
Peleg is a rather obscure and mostly unknown character in the Bible. However, incidents around this rather unremarkable character of Peleg have give risen to many spectacular theories and what some might call, science fiction. Peleg is mentioned in the Book of Genesis 10:25 and a single simple passage of text has given rise to some remarkable ideas. Peleg is the son of Eber who is the great grandson of Noah's son Shem. This would place Peleg among the fifth generation after Noah. "Two son's were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the Earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan." - Genesis 10:25 It is the phrase "for in his days the Earth was divided' that has sparked so much intrigue. Interestingly, the exact same phrase is repeated later in the Bible. "To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg  (for in his days the earth was divided), and his brother’s name was Joktan." 1 Chronicles 1:19 Giv...

Nazareth Inscription - It May Still Refer to Jesus.

Image
The Nazareth Inscription, sometimes called the Nazareth decree, is a first century marble slab inscribed with a warning about stealing corpses. It is inscribed by an unknown Caesar and has been dated to the first century A.D. or perhaps as early as the late first century B.C. Some have claimed the inscription is proof of the resurrections of Jesus and is a direct reference to His missing body on Easter morning. Now new scientific test have caused a great many to question if the inscription refers to Jesus, or another incident entirely. Some are saying the new study debunks any reference the inscription has to Jesus and are making many bold claims, but before making too many assumptions, we should first carefully examine all the facts of the case. The marble slab is inscribed with a rather lengthy decree by Caesar stating that anyone found guilty of stealing a body (corpse) can and should be put to death. The inscription is written in rather poor Greek. Edict of Caesar It is my decision...
